Evolution Mining has partnered with NQ Dry Tropics (NQDT) to pilot an innovative Environmental Enhancement project, aimed at re-establishing an open body of water and restoring its fauna diversity.
By removing 15 hectares of aquatic weeds within the Kalamia Creek wetlands in Ayr, North Queensland, the project will explore how to prevent their continued spread, and how those weeds can then be harvested, transported to a local landholder and turned into compost, with the resulting organic matter used to improve local agricultural soils and benefit farm productivity.
Northern Star Resources Limited has recently expanded its highly successful fee for service (FFS) Aboriginal Ranger employment program to its Kalgoorlie operations.
Operating at the Company’s Jundee mine since 2012, the Ranger FFS model engages Aboriginal people as environmental experts and to provide core environmental compliance services to Northern Star mining and exploration programs.

These tainted commodities are traded by private armed groups for monetary gain to finance civil conflicts and violence which contribute to the violation of human rights. Thus, the quest for ‘responsible’ and ethically sourced minerals is becoming more and more prevalent.
Conflict minerals, which can include gold ore, are smuggled out of countries such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and parts of Afghanistan, Columbia, and Zimbabwe, and shipped to smelters around the world for refinement.
