International netball star Stacey Francis is a key defender for West Coast Fever, but off the court Stacey loves a new adventure, and was excited to share her experience walking Perth’s Heart of Gold Discovery Trail with her Fever teammates.
“Since moving to WA, I took it upon myself to become the biggest tourist around and use every spare chance I get to explore the amazing sights and attractions that the State has to offer. When I was given the chance to do the Perth #heartofgold Discovery Trail with some of my teammates I jumped at it!” said Stacey Francis.
“One of the many great things about the trail is that the Heart of Gold Australia app is free to download, and you could even download the trail bundle in the app before leaving your Wi-Fi at home!”
“We walked the 2.5km trail on one of the many glorious Perth days and started at the famous Golden Eagle nugget replica in Elizabeth Quay. Although I have been to Elizabeth Quay several times before, I had never noticed the replica and so to begin the tour in a familiar place, whilst discovering something new was great.”
“The self-guided walking trail led us to explore 11 different locations of golden significance around the City of Perth with the app enabling us to use augmented reality, access exclusive video content and hear some engaging visual stories.”
“My favourite stop was London Court, for obvious reasons, and the best thing that I learnt on the day was that many early prospectors used to walk to the Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie goldfields - a journey of 595km from Perth. Crazy!! The trail, thankfully, was a much shorter walk than that with it taking anywhere from 1-2hrs. However, you could make a day of it by stopping somewhere in the City for lunch, or even packing a picnic to eat in the Government House gardens if you walk the trail between 12 and 2pm on a Tuesday/Wednesday or Thursday.”
“For me the best part of the day was completing the tour with a quiz at the final stop, The Perth Mint, which meant that I got to take home a gold coin!” Stacey concluded.
