Earlier this month, mental health not-for-profit charity LIVIN delivered their LIVINWell program to employees and contractors at Gold Fields Granny Smith mine.

Based in Laverton, the workers of this remote mine site would be forgiven for thinking that they’re located too far from mental health assistance – but nothing could be further from the truth.

Gold schools program expands with new trail

The Gold Industry Group will launch its second virtual Heart of Gold Discovery Trail in historic Kalgoorlie at a free community event on Saturday 9 June in conjunction with a local schools program.

Set to unlock the region’s golden past and the operations of today via the Heart of Gold Australia app, the trail will educate the next generation with a fun and interactive school program aligned to the Australian Curriculum.

Professional golfers Daniel Fox, Aaron Pike and Ryan Lynch have taken on their most daunting challenge yet, avoiding the world's biggest bunker at Evolution Mining's Mungari Gold Mine, in the lead up to the TX Civil and Logistics WA PGA Championship in Kalgoorlie. 

Standing at the edge of the custom-made par-3 golf hole, the trio gazed out across the open cut gold mine to their target - a green positioned 294 meters away with a 46-metre elevation change.

Gold bar replica marks opening of Kalgoorlie virtual trail

The Gold Industry Group will launch its second virtual Heart of Gold Discovery Trail in historic Kalgoorlie at a free community event on Saturday 9 June 2018.

The official ceremony will take place at the Town Hall from 9.30am (AWST), with the starting point of the trail marked by the unveiling of a Perth Mint sponsored replica gold bar outside Market Arcade at 10am.

WASM Wallabies and Wombats compete against world's best

The WASM Wombats and WASM Wallabies competed in 40th Intercollegiate Mining Competition at the Camborne School of Mines in England over the weekend, with the WASM Wombats Women's team winning for the first time in Mining Games history. 

The Ausdrill Wombats came a close second overall to the hosts, while both Wallabies teams beat their personal best results, and the WASM Alumni team placed as the overall winners of the competition.

Queensland gold at the heart of the 2018 Melbourne Cup

Evolution Mining Limited has announced gold produced at its Mt Rawdon gold mine, located 20 kilometres southeast of Mt Perry, has been used to make Australia’s most iconic horse racing trophy for the 2018 Lexus Melbourne Cup.

This is the third consecutive year that Australia's second largest gold miner has supplied the gold to make the Melbourne Cup trophy, but the first time the gold has come from one of its Queensland operations.

It was all gold at the 17th WA Business News 40 under 40 Awards last night with Gold Industry Group Vice Chairperson and Gold Fields Vice President of Legal and Compliance Kelly Carter and Saracen Mineral Holdings Managing Director Raleigh Finlayson both taking home awards.

Mr Finlayson took out the top honour, named First Among Equals ahead of a diverse field of more than 100 of WA's young business & community leaders, as well as the large business category.

Electrical apprentice Victoria Putter has become a treasured member of the electrical team at Gold Fields' St Ives Gold Mine and is close to finishing her TAFE studies in Kalgoorlie.

In her second year as an Electrical Apprentice, Ms Putter is achieving excellent results in her TAFE studies, with her positive attitude an asset in the workplace.
