Royal Flying Doctors Service receive vital funding from gold companies

Ramelius Resources have recently provided support to the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Western Australia (RFDSWA) to purchase Hamilton T1 Ventilators that have equipped a fleet of 18 aircraft to provide the best respiratory support to patients.

RFDSWA Head of Medical Robert Radici said the Hamilton Ventilator is a significant piece of equipment and provides the same functionality as a ventilator you’d find in a hospital.

Resources sector funds COVID-19 research

The Western Australian resources sector will provide half a million dollars to fund a COVID-19 population study which will undertake wide-scale asymptomatic testing of FIFO workers.

The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia and its members have been working with the WA Government on the DETECT (Defining and Monitoring the Prevalence of SARS CoV2 (COVID-19) in the Community) program, which is focusing on testing targeted cohorts such as students, teachers, health care workers and police.

Gold miners have joined with the resources sector in Western Australia to donate more than $9 million to the Royal Flying Doctors Service, Foodbank and Lifeline.

The COVID-19 Community Support Initiative set up by the CMEWA, has so far received much needed funds from Gold Industry Group members AngloGold Ashanti Australia, Gold Fields, Gold Road Resources, Newcrest Mining, Newmont Australia, Northern Star Resources, Ramelius Resources, Regis Resources and Saracen Mineral Holdings.

The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia’s new media campaign will highlight the widespread benefits of the Western Australian resources sector to the State’s economy and local communities.

The campaign aims to start a conversation in the community about these benefits, whether it’s employment and opportunities, the taxes that are invested in infrastructure and services, or the contribution to local communities, such as sponsoring events, community grants, supporting sporting groups, and rehabilitating the environment.

Members put their life saving skills to the test during a weekend of challenges at the 2019 Chamber of Minerals and Energy (CME) Surface Mine Emergency Response Competition, held over 25 and 26 May at Hannans North Tourist Mine.
