Bitcoin: Digital or Fools Gold?

Ask most people that work in finance what they think about Bitcoin, and the likely response will be; “it’s a bubble”.

Google certainly seems to think so too, with “Bitcoin is a Bubble” returning 31,800,000 results, proof of how many times people have, incorrectly so far, called a top in the price of the world’s most famous cryptocurrency.

Discovering Perth's heart of gold

Western Australians have long treasured their gold mining heritage. We have admired the courage, tenacity and sheer grit of those who laboured in the harsh and hot goldfields during the first gold rush in early 1890s.

With Perth's first boom driven by a gold rush, the Gold Industry Group has launched the #heartofgold Discovery Trail starting at Elizabeth Quay.

A day in Leinster

The township of Leinster lies 368km north of Kalgoorlie and is often described as an oasis in the desert. Residents refer to it as either the 'home of the wedge tail eagle' or 'the jewel of the northern goldfields'.

Gold mining first began in the area in 1897 and the town was established in 1976. Today, Leinster is home to some 500 gold and nickel mine workers. The Gold Industry Group had the opportunity to visit the mining town and attend the regional race day earlier this month.

Finding of "Golden Eagle" nugget

Western Australia’s gold history is both colourful and fascinating. Following the challenges of the First World War, the 1930s brought revitalisation to the gold industry with a rise in the gold price and an increase in foreign investment. However, it was the discovery of a gold nugget in 1931 that created a national sensation and saw many prospectors return to WA.
