The Perth Mint has been recognised by WA’s leading work, health and safety (WHS) training organisation IFAP, winning the SafeWay Health and Wellbeing Award.

The IFAP SafeWay Awards recognise outstanding innovation, management, strategies and contributions of both individuals and organisations in work health and safety.

The Health and Wellbeing Award acknowledges and recognises the positive contributions of an individual or organisation towards improving work health and wellbeing, with The Perth Mint being awarded for their Mentally Healthy Workplace Program.

The Mentally Healthy Workplace Program focuses on cultivating a workplace with employee wellbeing and safety at the forefront. The Perth Mint’s approach to mental health involves implementing actions across three key areas: promotion, protection and support.

Initiatives currently in place include a large network of mental health first aid officers, flexible work arrangements for employees, healthy lifestyle reimbursements, corporate volunteering days and employee access to a registered psychologist on site.

The Perth Mint is also recognised as a “Gold Mental Health First Aid Skilled Workplace” by Mental Health First Aid Australia. Other workplaces in the gold industry that have also been recognised include Northern Star Resources, Gold Road Resources, Evolution Mining, Gold Fields and Bellevue Gold.

Group Manager: Organisation and Cultural Development Kristen Potter said creating a safe and sustainable workplace for all employees was a key focus for The Perth Mint.

“It is imperative for organisations to provide a workplace that is free from bullying and discrimination, where mental or physical problems are understood without stigma and employees know how to respond appropriately and effectively to people who face difficulties,” Ms Potter said.

“We are honoured to be presented with this award and are dedicated to further educate others, learn and adapt as required in the changing landscape of mental health to keep our employees safe within and outside of the workplace.”
