The Gold Industry Group (GIG) welcomed five new Directors at our 2021 Annual General Meeting, including Saturn Metals Managing Director Ian Bamborough, St Barbara Head of People, Culture and Corporate Affairs Justine Fisher, Northern Star Resources Group Manager Government Relations and Social Performance Dr Guy Singleton, Gold Road Resources Chief Financial Offer John Mullumby and Perth Mint Manager Business Development and Industry Research Cameron Alexander.

Long-term Directors who retained their positions included Gold Fields Vice President of Legal and Compliance Kelly Carter, AngloGold Ashanti Australia Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Community and HR Andrea Maxey, and Evolution Mining Vice President – Sustainability (HSE, Risk & Social Responsibility) Fiona Murfitt, resulting in the Board maintaining its existing equal gender split.

Mr Bamborough, Ms Fisher, Dr Singleton, Mr Mullumby and Mr Alexander bring a range of skillsets and diversity of thought to the Board.

GIG Chair Kelly Carter welcomed the new appointments and acknowledged the outstanding efforts of former Chair Richard Hayes, who retired from the Board last month, and outgoing Vice-Chair Stuart Jenner and Directors Stuart Tonkin, Peter Cook, Marianne Dravnieks and Giulia Savio.

“I am delighted to see that the Gold Industry Group Board continues to represent the breadth of our gold sector, with a wealth of expertise and insight. I certainly look forward to working with the new Board to continue the success of the Group to date,” Ms Carter said.

Ms Carter reflected on her first year as Chair of the GIG.

“It has been rewarding to see the industry and the Group continue to come together to champion our sector’s value by connecting and educating the community.

“This year our new and expanded national programs aimed at educating the next generation and attracting talent to our sector have flourished,” Ms Carter said.

“Our Gold Jobs initiative has now reached more than 20 million views, attracting new talent and supporting the sector’s efforts to fill vacancies in a tough and competitive market, showcasing the diverse range of careers and roles offered in Australia’s gold industry.

“Our National Gold Education Program has now reached more than 1200 schools, inspiring tens of thousands of students and teachers to learn more about Australia’s gold industry.

“We hosted six successful events, welcoming back our Great Diversity Debate to tackle the topical subject of working from home and workplace flexibility in front of almost 300 people.

“And our media footprint resulted in more than 32 million views and more than 90 000 website visitors,” Ms Carter said.

This year the Group also launched a national mental health school tour with Livin to support the communities members operate in; renewed the landmark partnership with Netball WA, West Coast Fever and Shooting Stars as a result of the impact these programs have had on the community and in raising the gold industry’s profile; supported more than 1500 students and 560 educators in Earth and Environmental Science through the partnership with Australian Earth Science Education in NSW; and partnered with the Resources Technology Showcase, connecting the industry to more 8000 students.

”I am immensely proud of what the Gold Industry Group has achieved to date in championing the value of the gold sector to our economy and our communities, and I’m excited to work alongside my fellow Directors in 2022 to build on that success,” Ms Carter concluded.

During the Annual General Meeting, the GIG also re-elected its Committee of Management including Treasurer Daniel Borgas and Company Secretary Bron Suchecki.
