With the first national release now live, the new gold tourism experiences join the app’s existing Perth and Kalgoorlie Heart of Gold Discovery Trails and Goldfields Drive Trail.

Two year’s since the app launched, it now offers a wide variety of guided and self-guided tours, attractions and historic landmarks, from across Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, the Northern Territory and Australia’s Capital Territory.

GIG Executive Officer Rebecca Johnston said the free app is offering the community a fun and interactive way to explore the nation’s golden story, putting its gold experiences at your fingertips.

“The Heart of Gold Australia app now provides locals, students and visitors the opportunity to experience gold from anywhere in Australia.

“Gold tourism is one way we are connecting the wider community to the importance and relevance of gold in our country,” Ms Johnston said.

“The second release will include a dozen more gold tourism experiences over the coming months, hailing from across Queensland, Tasmania and South Australia.

“In addition, an in-app uses of gold game and virtual reality gold mine experience is also in development,” Ms Johnston concluded.

With the first release now live, users can explore:

Utilising a number of virtual interactive features to tell the tales of a nation built on gold, the app’s content is filled with fun augmented reality games, fascinating audio-visual stories, fun widgets and timeless photos.

The new gold tourism sites can be explored either by proximity to the user, or by selecting a state or territory, with the list featuring some of the nation’s most impressive locations and one-of-a-kind gold experiences.

The app is further supplemented by the GIG’s gold education program, which encourages primary and secondary teachers to utilise the free app as an educational tool for the classroom, along with its associated lesson plans.
