Ramelius Resources have recently provided support to the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Western Australia (RFDSWA) to purchase Hamilton T1 Ventilators that have equipped a fleet of 18 aircraft to provide the best respiratory support to patients.

RFDSWA Head of Medical Robert Radici said the Hamilton Ventilator is a significant piece of equipment and provides the same functionality as a ventilator you’d find in a hospital.

“All patients requiring ventilator support can be cared for with this machine. Its functionality includes settings for neonates, paediatric and adult patients making it extremely versatile,” said Mr Radici.

The portability of the ventilator makes it an appropriate inclusion for the small environment of RFDSWA’s aircraft and makes a big difference to the care for their patients. It can also be taken to the scene of an incident.

Since January 2021, the RFDS has transported 200 patients who have relied on the Hamilton T1 Ventilator inflight for respiratory support. With a 10-year lifespan on these ventilators, the generous funding by Ramelius Resources is essential to the RFDS offering.

The funding of medical equipment is an ongoing requirement for RFDSWA’s service to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.

Westgold Resources became the latest major partner of the Royal Flying Doctor Service in WA early this year, with CEO Debbie Fullarton visiting the RFDS Jandakot base to meet and see some of the crew in action.

“Westgold Resources is excited to be partnering with the RFDSWA to bring world-class medical care to remote communities. We thank the Flying Doctors for their unwavering dedication and service to the wellbeing of people in the outback, including our own workers in the Murchison region,” Ms Fullarton said.

At the rise of COVID-19 last year, Gold Industry Group (GIG) members joined the COVID-19 Community Support Initiative with other Western Australian resources companies in donating more than $9 million to the Royal Flying Doctors Service, Foodbank and Lifeline, directly benefitting communities across the State.

Set up by the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia (CMEWA), the initiative received much needed funds from GIG members AngloGold Ashanti Australia, Gold Fields, Gold Road Resources, Northern Star Resources, Ramelius Resources, and Regis Resources.

GIG Chair and Gold Fields Vice President Legal and Compliance Kelly Carter said it was encouraging to see the gold sector join with the broader resources industry to respond so positively in such a short time frame to meet the immediate needs of our community, who are facing unprecedented challenges.

“We are delighted to be able to support the vital work that the RFDS, Foodbank, and Lifeline are doing to support West Australians in need during this crisis,” said Ms Carter.
