Diggers & Dealers was back bigger than ever in 2022, with more than 2,600 attendees excited to return from around the globe to be at Australia’s pinnacle mining industry conference.

Even the wild weather didn’t impact the mood, with Forum Chairman Jim Walker crediting the record attendance at the iconic three-day Kalgoorlie event to an active and engaged mining industry.

The Gold Industry Group (GIG) hosted its fifth annual networking event on Thursday 27 May at The Perth Mint, reconnecting more than 100 members amongst the glimmering displays of The Perth Mint’s gold exhibition and melt house to share the impact of its latest activities.

Newly appointed GIG Chair and Gold Fields Vice President of Legal and Compliance Kelly Carter opened the evening by acknowledging the start of National Reconciliation Week and welcoming Olman Walley who delivered the Welcome to Country with a captivating digeridoo performance.

Incorporating STEM learning through hands-on activities that replicate common-place scenarios within the gold sector, provides students with a unique opportunity to interact with gold industry workers and discover the diverse range of careers on offer.

The Gold Industry Group’s popular Women in Gold Great Diversity Debate hit the road this year, expanding from its original host city of Perth to both Sydney and Melbourne, with a diverse panel of 12 speakers and hundreds of guests from across the nation joining the #womeningold19 conversation.

Since the GIG’s inaugural event in 2016, the debate has quickly become one of the most influential diversity events on Australia’s mining calendar, this year amplifying the topic three-fold crossing three States.

Gold Education Program goes national

The Gold Industry Group (GIG)’s school program has expanded to inspire the next generation of gold industry leaders, by providing free, interactive gold demonstrations to primary and secondary students across Australia.

Developed in conjunction with Earth Science Western Australia (ESWA), the one-hour sessions are delivered by passionate gold industry professionals and incorporate STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning through a hands-on activity that replicates common-place scenarios within the gold sector.

Gold diversity debate debuts in Melbourne

The Gold Industry Group’s Women in Gold Great Diversity Debate will be held in Melbourne for the first time, as part of a national tour, on Friday 15 November at River’s Edge.

With an expected crowd of more than 100 guests, the inaugural debate will see diversity take centre stage as a panel of four leading industry speakers discuss whether a diversity debate that begins and ends with gender is doomed to fail.

The Gold Industry Group (GIG)’s popular annual Women in Gold Great Diversity Debate will not only be held in Perth in November, but will travel to Sydney and Melbourne, with 12 speakers taking to the stage in engaging and thought-provoking discussions.

The GIG’s inaugural event in 2016 attracted more than 300 gold industry professionals and has since become one of the largest and most influential diversity events on the mining industry calendar.

We are coordinating a GIG LIVIN Tour with members and the Goldfields community next month, from 12-19 June.
