The Gold Industry Group (GIG) are thrilled to continue their support of Shooting Stars, empowering Aboriginal girls and women for a further three years, as a Major Partner of the program.
Supporting Shooting Stars since 2019, the GIG was instrumental to the expansion into the Goldfields region enabling the program to launch in Laverton empowering 26 participants across years 4 – 12.
Two Shooting Stars’ participants and trainees are celebrating this month, after successfully completing their Certificate III in Sport and Recreation whilst living and working in their own regional Western Australian communities.
As Shooting Stars’ Premier Partner, the Gold Industry Group has been working with the charity to improve the lives of indigenous girls in WA since announcing their landmark agreement with netball in April 2019.
As Shooting Stars’ Premier Partner, the Gold Industry Group (GIG) is excited to announce the program’s expansion into Laverton, thanks to the combined support of the GIG and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
The program’s new trial site will be based at Laverton School and begin in Term 4 this year, making it the second site based in the Goldfields region and the eighth site in Western Australia overall.
West Coast Fever players Jhaniele Fowler and Beryl Friday visited the Shooting Stars Narrogin site to help participants learn valuable skills and build their confidence, both in the classroom and on the court.
As a joint initiative of Glass Jar Australia and Netball WA, Shooting Stars commenced work on their Narrogin site in 2018.
Ten Indigenous girls from the Gold Industry Group backed Shooting Stars education program were rewarded for their achievements this month, taking part in an action-packed leadership camp in Perth.
A wide variety of activities were in store for the girls, who range from year 9 to 12 and hail from regional communities as far flung as Carnarvon, Mullewa, Meekatharra, Narrogin and Leonora.
The Gold Industry Group are delighted to announce it has committed $5 million to netball in Western Australia in a record partnership deal.
The proceeds will help underpin development of netball from the grassroots level through to the elite across Netball WA, West Coast Fever and Shooting Stars.
With the support of Gold Fields’ Australian Foundation, St Barbara Limited and Saracen Mineral Holdings, Shooting Stars officially launched its eighth site in Western Australia.
Leonora will be Shooting Stars’ first program based in Goldfields, located 833 km northeast of Perth and will engage up to 35 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls from years 4-10 at Leonora District High School.
