‘That’s Gold’ docuseries had the crowd buzzing

The Gold Industry Group’s annual diversity events were back bigger than ever in 2022 for Let’s Talk Diversity, as a 250-person strong crowd flocked to the iconic Perth Mint to hear a collection of industry leaders, thinkers, and influencers discuss how gold mining can attract Gen Z to the industry.

The event was the first in a national series which will hit the road later this month in Sydney (November 29) and Melbourne (December 1) as the industry seeks an efficient, skilled, and suitably sized workforce for the future.

More than 30 emergency responders from Northern Star Resources, Gold Fields, Ramelius Resources and Westgold Resources put their lifesaving skills on show in eight realistic scenarios at the 11th annual Mining and Emergency Response Competition (MERC).

Northern Star Resources and the Gold Industry Group (GIG) were proud sponsors again of the free event at Langley Park Perth, from 26 to 28 November 2021, attracting hundreds of local spectators to witness the action and participate in the fun free activities on offer. The event theme, diversity and inclusion, was celebrated by the first ever all-female team from Gold Fields.

The Gold Industry Group (GIG) showcased its initiatives centred around education and developing talent pathways to more than 430 Year 10 students from across 15 schools from Perth and Peel regions at this year’s Get Into Resources (GIR), as a platinum sponsor of the event held at North Metropolitan TAFE in Perth.

Supported by WA Minister for Mines and Petroleum Bill Johnston who welcomed students on the second day and echoed just how vital the resources industry is to the State and Australia, the event sparked career interest in the resources sector.

Australian feature film shines light on pioneering gold rush cameleers

Following its success at the 2020 Venice Film Festival, acclaimed Australian drama The Furnace premiered on 30 November, shining a light on the ‘Afghan’ cameleers during the 1800s gold rushes at its premiere on 30 November.

The Furnace premieres as part of Lotterywest Films Perth Festival from 30 November – 6 December before being available at 110 cinemas around Australia from 10 December 2020.
