The inaugural Gold Industry Group Leadership Camps saw Netball WA’s Aboriginal All Stars and Tier 1 Associations immersed into an elite sporting environment, with a focus on developing leadership qualities, promoting health and well being, and building netball skills.
Held over the same weekend as the Constellation Cup, the camps provided an optimal opportunity for the next generation of Western Australia’s netball leaders to learn from the best.
Ten Indigenous girls from the Gold Industry Group backed Shooting Stars education program were rewarded for their achievements this month, taking part in an action-packed leadership camp in Perth.
A wide variety of activities were in store for the girls, who range from year 9 to 12 and hail from regional communities as far flung as Carnarvon, Mullewa, Meekatharra, Narrogin and Leonora.
AngloGold Ashanti Australia and Independence Group have joined forces to support the education outcomes and employment pathways for indigenous students in the Dandjoo Darbalung program at St Catherine’s College.
The residential program sees aboriginal students graduate with a tertiary level qualification across all five Western Australian universities.
