Joint venture partners AngloGold Ashanti Australia and Independence Group NL are set for a big year ahead, with recent approval for the $105.7 million underground expansion of their existing Tropicana gold mine in Western Australia’s Goldfields region.
The firing of the first blast for the portal at Boston Shaker took place on 8 May.
For Independence Group (IGO), being at the forefront of technological change is paying dividends, with the company utilising a raft of alternate approaches to their diversified mine sites.
IGO recently shifted its focus toward minerals involved in battery production, with its world class Nova operation producing high grade nickel, copper and cobalt, while also holding a 30% stake in the Tropicana Gold Mine.

The residential program sees aboriginal students graduate with a tertiary level qualification across all five Western Australian universities.
Macmahon Holdings, AngloGold Ashanti Australia, Independance Group NL and Carey Mining celebrated the milestone of eight young Aboriginal trainees at the Tropicana Gold Mine in November.
In a formal ceremony at the Tropicana site, the trainees were each presented with certificates and traineeship offers after successfully completing the eight week Get Into Mining training programme.
