‘That’s Gold’ docuseries had the crowd buzzing

The Gold Industry Group’s annual diversity events were back bigger than ever in 2022 for Let’s Talk Diversity, as a 250-person strong crowd flocked to the iconic Perth Mint to hear a collection of industry leaders, thinkers, and influencers discuss how gold mining can attract Gen Z to the industry.

The event was the first in a national series which will hit the road later this month in Sydney (November 29) and Melbourne (December 1) as the industry seeks an efficient, skilled, and suitably sized workforce for the future.

The Gold Industry Group (GIG)’s 2021 Great Diversity Debate unpacked one of the hottest topics to hit the workplace since the pandemic, dissecting the virtues versus pitfalls of working from home in front of hundreds of industry colleagues at The Perth Mint, in conjunction with Women in Mining and Resources WA.

GIG Chair and Gold Fields VP Legal and Compliance Kelly Carter led the industry panel to tackle the topic ‘Working from home – a golden opportunity or a cage with gold bars?’ resulting in a surprising win.

WIMWA Summit ignites discussions of the modern workplace

The 2020 Women in Mining WA (WIMWA) Summit held in September was backed by Gold Industry Group members IGO, Gold Fields, Northern Star Resources and Regis Resources and featured insightful speakers from around the world addressing current challenges experienced by both women and men in the workplace.

This year’s Summit tackled various key topics of workplace culture around diversity, leadership, mental health and adaptivity.

Bradford named Honorary Doctor for support of mining education

IGO Limited’s MD and CEO Peter Bradford, has been named an Honorary Doctor of Curtin University for his distinguished services as an alumnus, through outstanding leadership, advocacy and philanthropic support of mining education.

Mr Bradford graduated from Curtin’s Western Australian School of Mines in 1978 and connects his career success in the resources industry to his studies at the University.

The Gold Industry Group’s third annual Women in Gold Great Diversity Debate at The Perth Mint saw its 300-strong crowd get behind the hashtag #womeningold18 to discuss corporate gender equity targets, sparking a national tour.

Hosted in conjunction with Women in Mining WA, the event recognises and promotes women in the gold mining industry and provides a platform on which to examine gender-related topics through its annual debate, which will take to the national stage in 2019.

Great debate to put gender diversity under spotlight

Tonight, the Gold Industry Group will host its second Women in Gold Sundowner at The Perth Mint in conjunction with Women in Mining WA, this year putting diversity under the spotlight with a great debate in front of more than 300 guests. 

Inspired by Catherine Fox’s book Stop Fixing Women, the debate will see a diverse powerhouse panel of industry figures battle it out over whether we need to stop fixing women and start fixing the system to achieve gender equality in the workplace.
