Australia is a land rich in natural resources, a truly ‘lucky country’, full to the brim with potential and enterprise. Blessed with wide expanses of land, we have always looked to profit from our natural resources. Perhaps none have contributed as much to our country’s development, success and future, as gold.

Bringing our mining history to life by combining it with tourism, provides a further opportunity that can be leveraged to connect the nation and our international visitors with gold.

Newcrest honour Martu worker

A significant new symbol of the ever-growing and closer relationships between Newcrest Mining and the Martu people was celebrated at the company’s Telfer gold mine, with the official opening of the Kevin Fred Room.

Named after Martu elder Kevin Fred, it is the first of any building at Telfer named to honour an individual, and recognises the 16-year period in which Kevin worked tirelessly to strengthen relationships and trust between Newcrest and the Martu people.

The Gold Industry Group were recently treated to the ultimate road trip through the Goldfields by Mandy and Chuck from the Goldfields Tourism Network WA.

The 300 km long photo shoot included several hidden gems and key stopping points on the Golden Quest Discovery Trail – an epic adventure through the heart of the region.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder named top tourism town

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder received the GWN7 Top Tourism Town Award in the category for towns or cities with a population over 5,000 at the 2018 WA Tourism Conference.

Held in the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre earlier this month, the awards are an annual celebration and recognition of the best of Western Australia’s destinations.
