The annual What’s Down the Track Forum brings together leaders in the mining industry to the heart of the gold mining region in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

What’s Down the Track is a joint venture between the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Minerals & Energy of Western Australia, providing the ultimate insight into what’s happening today and into the foreseeable future of the resource sector in the Goldfields-Esperance Region.

In a time when changes and challenges are more noticeable and fast approaching, What’s Down the Track attracts key stakeholders and companies with a vested interest in the region. The event will include 30 short briefings by business, industry and government leaders discussing the changes occurring in the wider Goldfields region and the companies and individuals who are driving them.

This year’s Forum incorporates 21 professional industry exhibition bays, including Gold Industry Group members Norton Gold Fields and Gold Road Resources and is expected to attract more than 250 delegates.

Western Australia is the largest producer of gold in Australia, accounting for more than 70 per cent of the nation’s overall gold production. The mining operations run by companies like Norton Gold Fields and Gold Road Resources are critical to the social and economic fabric of Western Australia’s regional communities. The prosperity of the State’s regional towns follows the rise and fall of this important industry which supports local employment and business growth as well as indirect development in areas such as retail, community services and hospitality.

Additionally, gold mining alone in WA directly employs more than 20 000 people, making it the one of the most relied upon industries. WA gold miners have contributed more than $300 million in state tax and royalty revenue which has helped fund roads, transport, schools and hospitals. The mining industry also supports sporting and recreational activities and funds vital emergency and community services.

In the heart of the Goldfields mining region, What’s Down the Track promises to be an open and informative event, focussing on the positive contributions from the mining industry to the local regional communities.
