Gold Fields and Gold Road Resources, the owners of Australia’s newest gold mine, Gruyere, have donated a one kilogram gold bar worth approximately A$72,000 to Telethon this year, supporting a better life for children across Western Australia.

Little Telethon Stars, Callum Berrisford and Eva Molloy, with Gold Fields Executive Vice President Australasia Stuart Mathews and Gold Road Resources Managing Director Duncan Gibbs.

The bar, refined from gold produced at the Gruyere mine in the north-eastern Goldfields region of Western Australia, will be auctioned off at tonight’s Lexus Ball, with all proceeds going to Telethon.

The bar, consisting of 32 Troy ounces of gold, is 99.99 per cent pure and was poured especially for Telethon at The Perth Mint this week.

The donation of the Gruyere gold bar continues the gold industry’s strong support of Telethon, which raises funds helping to make significant advances in treating some of the life threatening diseases that face our children today.

Gold Fields Executive Vice President Australasia Stuart Mathews said they are delighted to support Telethon on their quest to ensuring a better life for our children now and in the future.

“Gold Fields has been contributing to the Western Australian community for almost two decades and we truly hope our gift to Telethon will raise a sizeable amount to support the wellness of children in our state,“ Mr Mathews said.

“We have four gold mining operations in the Goldfields region, and we pride ourselves on giving back to the local communities in which we operate and to the state of Western Australia.

“Gold Fields shares Telethon’s commitment to support the health and well-being of young West Aussies and support important research that will lead to treatments and cures for childhood illnesses.”

Gold Road Resources Managing Director Duncan Gibbs echoed Mr Mathews sentiments.

“Since Gold Road discovered the world-class Gruyere deposit in 2013, we have been committed to making a difference to the communities in which we operate,” he said.

“We are proud to have created employment and contracting opportunities in regional Western Australia and treasure our strong relationship with the Yilka people, the traditional owners of the land that hosts the Gruyere mine.

“As one of the leaders of the next generation of Australian gold miners, we are naturally drawn to the next generation of Australians, so what better way to help the children of today enjoy a better life than by supporting Telethon.”

Gruyere is Australia’s newest, world-class gold mining operation, located approximately 1000 km north-east of Perth and employing 300 men and women.

First gold was poured in June 2019. Since then, the owners Gold Fields and Gold Road Resources have been safely increasing production in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.

Gruyere is slated to produce on average 300,000 ounces a year for at least 12 years, making it one of the largest and most significant new gold mines worldwide to start up in 2019.
