Celebrating 30 years of operation on the Golden Mile, KCGM welcomed Goldfields residents and visitors to experience the region’s gold mining industry at a free community open day.

Held within the grounds of Hannans North Tourist Mine in Kalgoorlie on Saturday 29 June, the open day saw 3 500 locals, families, tourists and employees alike don their best high-vis clothing and join in the celebrations.

Visitors to the popular tourist attraction were able to get up close to some of the colossal-sized machinery used in gold mining, participate in fun, family-friendly activities and receive golden themed giveaways.

Set up in the Duketon Building, the Gold Industry Group (GIG) encouraged people to remember the day by striking a pose using the free Heart of Gold Australia app’s photo booth. Young and old alike could choose their favourite camera frame with which to interact, before being snapped accordingly and subsequently entering the GIG’s Instagram prize draw. The photo booth is just one of the interactive features on the Kalgoorlie and Perth #heartofgold Discovery Trails also on the Heart of Gold Australia app, available on iTunes and Google Play.

Our lucky winners were awarded as follows: a gold coloured iPad to Vanessa, a KCGM Super Pit Tour family pass to Kate, and a Hannans North Tourist Mine family pass to Sarsha.

Attendees also had the opportunity to win one of six 20 million and 60 million ounce commemorative coins via a free raffle ticket draw.
