The Western Australian Goldfields region’s richest Art Prize is back for 2020, and invites artwork submissions that address the theme of Identity: Individuality in a modern world.
The theme is open to interpretations of self and individuality in a variety of formats from Australian artists.
The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder places pride in its rich multicultural history and diverse community, and this year’s theme seeks to highlight the breadth of diversity and individuality within the local community, and Australia more generally.
City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder CEO John Walker said the theme offered artists the opportunity to explore a range of concepts, such as beginnings, ancestry, origins, belonging and identity.
“The City’s Art Prize is a forum to share those stories and ideas, and to come together as a community. We are looking forward to receiving some exciting entries in the coming months, and artists can really get creative with this theme, and tailor it to their chosen medium.
“We are encouraging local artists, especially our young and emerging artists, to look at the theme, what identity means to them and how they can reflect it in their artwork,” said Mr Walker.
Now in its 38th year, the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Art Prize is a popular and esteemed regional art competition that attracts artists from all across Australia. It is a long-standing annual event that has become an important occasion in the Western Australian arts calendar, offering prizes totaling more than $37,000 with an acquisitive $20,000 overall prize.
Registrations will open soon, and artists are encouraged across a range of mediums including sculpture, jewellery, up-cycled art, photography and painting to ensure a vibrant curation at the Goldfields Arts Centre for those attending the extended month-long exhibition.
Submissions on the theme are encouraged from emerging and professional artists residing in Australia.
