Evolution Mining helped create the new Mt Perry Summit Nature Walk launched earlier this year, boosting local tourism, supporting the wellbeing and fitness of locals and visitors, and leaving a positive and sustainable community asset.

Dedicated bushwalkers have known about the summit for years, scaling the summit to take in panoramic views of the Mt Rawdon gold mine and nearby township.

The newly developed bush walk situated on the traditional lands of the Gooreng Gooreng peoples is 2.2km long and rises to a height of 741m at the summit within the Mount Perry Resources Reserve.

Locals and visitors can experience the different vegetation communities on the walk, from dry rainforest to fern-clad hillsides, created by local Indigenous trainees, expert rangers, local partners and Evolution Mining.

The mountain provides the perfect habitat for various fauna such as wallabies and koalas and the short-beaked echidna, which is most active at dawn and dusk, and the rainbow bee-eater, a small bird with bright green, blue and yellow colouring.

Over 200 plant species have been identified on the mountain ridge and in the surrounding gullies including 47 different tree species, such as red cedar, python tree, hoop pine and pink bloodwood.

Evolution Mining Mt Rawdon Gold Operation General Manager Thomas Lethbridge praised his team for helping to launch the project which took four years to plan.

"Many people from Evolution have committed to the planning and creation of the Mt Perry Summit Nature Walk which will be enjoyed by locals and visitors for generations to come, well beyond the life of mine," Mr Lethbridge said.

Evolution Mining Sustainability Superintendent Paul Wright credited project partners Mt Perry Community Development Board, Gidarjil Development Corporation, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and North Burnett Regional Council.

"Everyone associated with the local area and Evolution Mining can be proud of this trail. It's a fantastic walk, built by exceptional people and great organisations," said Mr Wright.

The Mt Perry Summit Walk is now open to the public and has plenty of easy-to-find signage throughout the North Burnett town.
