The town of West Wyalong, nestled near Evolution Mining's Cowal Gold Mine, has achieved a new Guinness World Record for the most people simultaneously gold panning.

This extraordinary feat was accomplished on Saturday during the Evolution Mining Hearts of Gold Guinness World Record attempt, which brought together 268 participants.

Participants, who hailed from near and far, engaged in 30 minutes of gold panning, adhering meticulously to the strict guidelines set by the Guinness World Record.

Joe Mammen, General Manager of Evolution Mining Cowal Gold Operation, expressed his satisfaction with the event.

"The Guinness World Record was an exceptional opportunity for both locals and visitors to connect with a piece of West Wyalong's history,” he remarked.

“We were honoured to collaborate with the Bland Shire Council and the Hearts of Gold Committee to host this record-breaking event. It was a fitting recognition of our town's rich heritage, rooted in the 1890s gold rush.

“Evolution has been a part of the Cowal Gold Operation since 2015, and we are proud to contribute to the history of gold mining through our ongoing operations and events like this."

In support of the endeavour Gold Industry Group supplied 300 #HeartofGold branded hats for the participants.

West Wyalong's history is deeply intertwined with its gold mining roots, as it was established on former gold mines. The town was officially laid out and developed in 1895 following the discovery of gold by Joseph Neeld.

The Guinness World Record attempt was held in the main street of West Wyalong, emphasizing the event's connection to the town's golden past.

The success of this record-breaking attempt underscores the town's enduring legacy and the community's unity.

It also highlights Evolution Mining's commitment to preserving and celebrating the rich history of the regions where it operates.

The event serves as a testament to the importance of corporate engagement in nurturing local heritage and fostering a strong sense of community.

As the news of this achievement spreads throughout West Wyalong, the town can take pride in its historical significance, embracing its heritage while making history in the present.
