KCGM awards continue to benefit community

The three winners of KCGM’s quarterly Safety Innovation Award have chosen to donate $4,000 each to Radio Lollipop, Red Cross Soup Patrol and the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Men’s Shed.

The awards improve safety culture by recognising and rewarding individuals or teams who have implemented safety innovation ideas that eliminate or minimise risks on site.

Women in Gold to debate across the nation

The Gold Industry Group’s third annual Women in Gold Great Diversity Debate at The Perth Mint saw its 300-strong crowd get behind the hashtag #womeningold18 to discuss corporate gender equity targets, sparking a national tour.

Hosted in conjunction with Women in Mining WA, the event recognises and promotes women in the gold mining industry and provides a platform on which to examine gender-related topics through its annual debate, which will take to the national stage in 2019.

Macmahon names "The Hulk" as mental health ambassador

Mining contractor Macmahon Holdings engages retired mixed martial artist, Soa “The Hulk” Palelei as an ambassador for its Strong Minds, Strong Mines mental health program.

The program was launched in March 2018 with toolbox talks delivered to around 800 workers across Macmahon’s Western Australian operations.  It has since been extended to reach more than 1500 workers Australia wide.

Driving culture in steel heels

Gold Industry Group Director and corporate leader Sharon Warburton delivered a powerful speech to a full house at the WA Mining Club last month on the importance of supporting a culture of empowerment and mental health in the workplace. 

The St Barbara’s Day lunch remembered those who had lost their lives in the industry and Sharon decided to talk about the importance of people and their mental wellbeing.
