It was a golden result for this year’s Telethon with the annual charity event surging to a $62 million record fundraiser – and once again the gold industry helped provide some sparkle.
Gold Fields again donated a 99.9% pure one-kilogram gold bar for auction at the Telethon Ball held on 16 October, and the precious donation prompted vigorous bidding. Valued at approximately $80,000 the bar was eventually auctioned off for $135,000.
Gold Fields and Gold Road Resources, the owners of Australia’s newest gold mine, Gruyere, have donated a one kilogram gold bar worth approximately A$72,000 to Telethon this year, supporting a better life for children across Western Australia.
Northern Star Resources and Saracen Mineral Holdings dug deep for this year’s Telethon, helping to raise a record-breaking $38 million for the Telethon Kids Institute to support research into children’s respiratory health.
In a non-stop 24-hour live broadcast from Perth’s Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Channel Seven Perth Telethon has appealed to the Western Australian public annually since 1968 with the help of celebrity guests and live acts.
