KCGM is making final preparations ahead of the 20th anniversary of St Barbara’s parade, when once again, a 793C haul truck will rumble down Hannan Street in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and provide an awe-inspiring finale with a special significance.

KCGM Gidji Maintenance Supervisor Gavin Grljusich and Open Pit Operator Greg Smith are looking forward to the 2019 St Barbara’s Parade.

The 2019 St Barbara’s Festival Street Parade will also see the Gold Industry Group (GIG) bring West Coast Fever netball stars, alongside other GIG members Northern Star Resources, Gold Fields, SMS Mining Services, Saracen Mineral Holdings, Norton Gold Fields and Evolution Mining.

KCGM will enter its NAIDOC-themed haul truck in to the parade, on Sunday 1 December, with truck tray artwork commissioned by local indigenous artist Jason Dimer and his family earlier this year.

Accompanying the truck will be a 992K Loader, Force Water Cart and a newly-purchased Mining Legends R2900 Charity Loader.

KCGM General Manager Cecile Thaxter said this year’s event will see a long-standing KCGM employee take the esteemed position at the front of the 793C haul truck. This comes at a fortuitous time, as the company also celebrates its 30th year of operations.

“As our longest-standing employee, Gavin Grljusich Gidji Maintenance Supervisor has been chosen to ride at the front of the truck this year. After 32 years at KCGM, it is fitting that Gavin be involved in the parade as we celebrate our 30th anniversary,” she said.

“Greg Smith, who commenced at KCGM in 2007, has been chosen to drive the truck after being recognised for his length of service and dedication to KCGM over the last 12 years.

“KCGM’s employees, business partners and the community have played a significant part in our history so we’re looking forward to concluding our 30th anniversary celebrations in conjunction with the parade which is celebrating its 20th year.”

KCGM people will also be volunteering at the parade, helping to decorate the truck and other machinery and act as marshals along the parade route.

The 793C haul truck will be available for viewing at the top of Hannan Street from 10am for an hour before the parade begins (kicking off at 11am), when members of the public can get a photo in front of the truck.

KCGM has been a proud partner of the St Barbara’s parade since its inception in 1999.
