The Gold Industry Group’s National Gold Education Program has recommenced this term, after delivery of its dynamic gold sessions and unique Gold Resources Kits were temporarily postponed due to the national COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

Teachers in Western Australia can now book a free gold session for their class, and schools nation-wide can order a free Gold Resources Kit via the online platform. Delivery of sessions in Victoria and New South Wales continue to remain on hold due to COVID-19 impacts.

Developed in conjunction with Earth Science WA, the Program’s dynamic gold sessions are free one-hour workshops, delivered by passionate gold industry professionals to Upper Primary (Years 4-6) and Lower Secondary (Years 7-10) students.

Delivery of the free gold sessions to Western Australian schools is currently available in the regions of Albany, Coolgardie, Denmark, Kalgoorlie, Kambalda, Laverton, Leinster, Leonora, Norseman and Perth.

The Gold Industry Group’s highest priority is the well-being of all Australians, with measures in place to ensure the safety of teachers, students, and facilitators.

Gold Industry Group Executive Officer Rebecca Johnston said the Group were excited to recommence the Gold Industry Group’s National Education Program across Australia this term.

“As COVID-19 restrictions have begun to lift in WA, our passionate industry facilitators are excited to connect with students through the unique interactive sessions and inspire the next generation of industry leaders across a diverse range of career pathways.

“The Program extends across Australia with complimentary Gold Resources Kits available for schools to order while the sessions are currently on hold in other States,” Ms Johnston said.

Each gold session is designed to be delivered to one class of up to 32 students at a time, and upon completion of the demonstration, the school will be presented provided with a free Gold Resources Kit to encourage their students’ further learning.

Schools outside of the current serviceable areas are encouraged to order a free Gold Resources Kit.

The exclusive Gold Resources Kits feature real gold and rock samples from Victorian and Western Australian gold mines, and include a variety of fun and engaging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) materials and activities linked to the Australian Curriculum. The Kits are designed to assist teachers and excite Primary and Secondary students about Australia’s diverse gold sector.

Teachers can also take advantage of a wide range of free gold educational resources such as the Heart of Gold Australia app and linked lesson plans, with over 30+ gold experiences, games and interactive features to explore, that encourage learning both inside and outside of the classroom or with family and friends.

The Program recommences following the recent launch of the Gold Industry Group’s latest national initiative, Gold Jobs, a central online hub of employment opportunities and career pathways in Australia’s gold industry and a useful education tool for job seekers, current employees, students and teachers alike.

The National Gold Education Program is an education initiative by the Gold Industry Group and is proudly supported by AngloGold Ashanti Australia, Westgold Resources, Gold Fields, Kirkland Lake Gold, Newcrest Mining Limited, Northern Star Resources Limited, Gold Road Resources, Ramelius Resources and ABC Refinery.
